CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Firefighters rescued a dog and the driver from an 18-wheeler crash in Chambers County, according to the Baytown Fire Department.
In a social media post, Baytown FD said crews responded to a mutual aid call in Chambers County at about 1 p.m. on Jan. 9 for an 18-wheeler rollover.
Officials said crews arrived on the scene and found an 18-wheeler on its side with the driver trapped inside. The crews immediately went to work to rescue the driver, officials said, adding they used "a full complement of heavy rescue equipment."
The driver was pulled from the wreckage and flown to Memorial Hermann, according to authorities.
After rescuing the driver, crews discovered a dog trapped in a void space near the sleeper area of the vehicle's cab, according to Baytown FD. The dog was pulled to safety and appeared to be unharmed, officials said.
Baytown FD said the dog was left in the custody of Chambers County Animal Control for safekeeping.
"We're pleased this incident ended with a positive outcome," Baytown FD said in the social media post.
