Attempted burglary suspect shot by car owner

CONROE, TX (KTRK) -- Conroe police say a suspect was shot during an attempted burglary outside a convenience store Friday afternoon.

Around 3:15pm, officers responded to a reported shooting at a convenience store located the 15000 block of I-45 South.

Police say a man had parked his white van at the gas pump and walked inside to store to pay for his gas. When he walked back out, he saw someone rummaging through his van.

When the owner confronted the suspect, the burglar got back inside his SUV and tried to run the victim over in the parking lot. The victim then pulled out a handgun and shot the suspect at least twice, making him lose control of his SUV.

The burglar was transported to the Conroe Regional Medical Center. His condition is not known.

The gas station owner says the driver of the white van was let go, with no injuries or criminal charges for now.

"The good guy got the bad guy. But it's still scary," customer Stephanie Parks said.
