HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A child was killed after a security guard struck the infant with his vehicle at an apartment complex in southwest Houston, police said.
Officials said the 1-year-old's family was packing up their car when the baby boy slipped away and darted into the roadway of the parking lot.
That's when, police said, a security guard hit the boy with his vehicle.
Police said the security guard called 911 but decided to drive the child to the hospital while waiting for help.
Before they could leave the apartment complex, first responders arrived and took the child to the hospital, where the boy passed away, officials said.
According to the Houston Police Department, the security guard stayed on scene and cooperated with investigators at the scene. Police said the guard was evaluated and did not have any intoxicants in his system.
Officials confirmed the security guard is not facing any criminal charges at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
