HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- One person is dead, and several others are injured after a shooting on Homestead Road on Saturday night, the Houston Police Department said.
According to HPD, hundreds were gathered for a trail ride in the 11300 block of Homestead Road when officers were called to help disperse the crowd after the event.
Authorities said when officers were at the scene, an altercation broke out, and some people started shooting at each other.
Surveillance video obtained by ABC13 shows the moment shots rang out and multiple people started to scatter.
"At the time we heard it, we were about to leave, and then I heard like boom, boom, boom, like a whole bunch of them, over a dozen," a witness said.
Authorities said at least six victims were shot and hospitalized. The fire department took three people to the hospital, and the other three took themselves.
Officers said four victims, ages 16, 20, 20, and 22, are stable.
A 15-year-old and a different 20-year-old were in critical condition, but according to detectives, the 20-year-old man died.
Investigators say that before shots rang out, they received multiple calls for traffic control in the area.
Employees at the strip center who don't want to be identified due to safety concerns told ABC13 they made those calls.
"On the phone when I called them, I said, 'It's so chaos,' I didn't use the right word," an employee said.
Employees at Big City Foods shared a video showing multiple people on horses, banging on the window and trying to get into the grocery store. They said this isn't the first time this has happened.
"I only worked here like maybe three or four years, and I'm sure it happened before because the landlord told us it happened many, many times, and that's why they have surveillance they can see at home too, so it's been going on," the employee said
Authorities said they don't have suspect information, but believe there were multiple shooters.
Homicide detectives are now taking over the investigation.
People who live nearby also said this is nothing new, but they can't believe it ended in gunfire.
"When I came through here, it was blocked, so I got through, then when I left the house in Wayside, they were coming down Tidwell, and they had it blocked, so I had to sit there and wait, and now I woke up this morning like I said, and somebody gets shot. It's just sad, it's just sad," Arthur Stewart said.
