Long-time HPD narcotics K9 passes away at 15 years old
REST IN PEACE SITA: The beloved 2020 Service Animal of the Year served HPD for 13 years and was the department's most senior K9.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Houston Police Department announced Tuesday that long-time narcotics K-9, Sita, passed away due to health issues earlier this month.

Sita was just shy of 15 years old and had served the department for more than 13 years. She was the narcotics division's most senior K-9.

She was named the 2020 Service Animal of the Year by the 100 Club Houston, and received numerous other awards throughout her career.

Senior Police Officer Kristin Uhlin, Sita's handler, was partnered with her for more than 11 years.

According to HPD, Uhlin and Sita were responsible for numerous seizures of narcotics and currency that totaled in the millions.
