Pearland PD raises funds to send officers to NYPD funerals

PEARLAND, TX -- The Pearland Police Dept. is no less affected by the senseless shootings of two New York Police Dept. officers Saturday (Dec. 20) than most law enforcement agencies around the country.

The alleged shooter had shot his ex-girlfriend previously in the day and claimed his actions were to avenge Ferguson, Mo. teen Michael Brown and New York man Eric Garner. The man had posted messages on social media stating, "They took one of ours. I'll take two of theirs."

The alleged gunman took his own life soon after shooting Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos at point-blank range as they sat in their patrol cars in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The dates of the funerals have yet to be announced, but it is thought they will be held near the end of the week or during the weekend.
