HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A 17-year-old is in police custody after authorities said he purposely went after two teens and tried to run them over in North Harris County.

It happened just after 3:30 pm on Foxwalk Lane and Foxwood.

The mother of the female victim, 18-year-old Chelsea Grimble, said her daughter was walking home with the other 18-year-old victim when they saw the 17-year-old driver aim right for them.

"They saw him coming, accelerating," said Melody Grimble.

Grimble says the male victim pushed her daughter out of the way and tried to get a brick to throw at the driver. The driver took off and was arrested at his home nearby. Wednesday night, the silver car with a smashed windshield sat in his driveway and a family member declined to comment.

After the arrest, a motive became clearer. Deputies say the 17-year-old driver, Darrell McCain, was one of three people charged with burglarizing the male victim's home in October. Court records show they're accused of stealing $3,000 worth of computers and electronics and that McCain left his cell phone behind. McCain and the victims attend Nimitz High School.

"I can't think of any reason anyone deserves to be run over by a car, especially when you broke into my house in the first place," said the mother of the male victim, who identified herself only as Marie.

She told Eyewitness News her son suffered cuts from the incident. Chelsea Grimble escaped with a bloody nose. They were both taken to the hospital.

McCain is in police custody. He could face a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was still awaiting trial on the burglary charge.
