BAY CITY, TX (KTRK) -- Dozens of animals were seized in Matagorda County yesterday, rescued from deplorable conditions inside a mobile home in Bay City. The animals seized include 25 dogs, seven rats and a python.

An Eyewitness News team went inside the home and saw walls of filthy dog crates, filled with feces and other animal waste. Some crates actually had feces mixed in with the dog food in the dogs' bowls.

A couple of the dogs were living in the bathtub of the mobile home, but the rest were confined to their cages and they really couldn't help themselves.

The Houston Humane Society's chief veterinarian says it looks like these animals lived like this for months, if not years.

"What makes it so bad is, it's not just the neglect, but there was no one around on-scene," said Monica Schmidt Houston Humane Society spokesperson. "This place isn't fit for any animal or any human to live in."

The animals are now with the Houston Humane Society, where they will be medically evaluated. The chief vet said a lot of the animals were in poor condition with skin and dental and dehydration problems.

As for the owner, the Matagorda County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case. No criminal charges have been filed yet.
