At least 12 police officers were shot, leaving at least five dead, overnight Thursday in Dallas when snipers opened fire on police officers protecting protesters. The protest was in reaction to the killing of two black men, Alton Sterling in Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Minnesota, by police officers this week.

Images from Dallas and around the country show the raw emotion in the wake of the shooting.
