HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Earlier this week, we introduced you to the Houston Police Department's bike relay team. The riders left Houston for New York on Wednesday to raise money in the fight against cancer.
Well, their good deeds are apparently going beyond that, as some members of the team saved a trapped driver along the way.
HPD Officer Brittany Thaler and other riders were going through Alabama at around 3am Friday when they spotted flashing lights in a ditch along Highway 90 in Spanish Fort.
When they went to investigate, they found an elderly man trapped inside a car.
"I said, 'Is anybody there? Are you ok?' And a man says, 'No, help me, please. I'm down here in this ditch and I've got water up to my chest,'" Thaler said, "I said, 'Can you move, are you OK?' He says, 'I can't I've got a prosthetic and my back, I've got back issues.'"
The officers called for help, and EMS team pulled him to safety, then took him to the hospital. At this point, the man's condition is unknown.
