HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A standoff between Harris County officials and a murder suspect wanted out of San Diego, California, ended last night in west Harris County.

The sheriff's office got a call from California officials saying the suspect was at a room in the Palace Inn on Highway 6 and Empanada.

When deputies knocked on the door, a person traveling with the suspect came out. The suspect refused to come out and fired his gun inside the room.

Deputies then set up a perimeter and called in the high Risk Operations unit.

They surrounded the motel and sent in a robot.

"Upon entry of the robot, it was determined the suspect had shot and killed himself inside the bathroom area," said Thomas Gilliland with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

No one else was hurt.
