6-year-old Houston boy reels in great white shark in Cape Cod
CAPE COD, MA (KTRK) -- A 6-year-old boy from Houston fishing with his family hooked something a little bigger than he could handle. Blake White caught a great white shark off the coast of Cape Cod. This story may sound fishy, but it's true.
White was fishing with his family on their boat a mile off Rock Harbor in Cape Cod Bay when he first felt a strong pull on his fishing line.

"I just saw that this line was just moving like, tugging line out to the sea, and it was like so fast, the real was like zzzzzzzz," said White.
Initially Blake thought he had hooked a striped bass, but it was actually a 10 to 12 foot great white shark.
"My brother thought it was, he thought it was a submarine," said White.
"Blake started reeling, or trying to reel, holding the rod, and then he decided whatever it was was too big," said Blake's father, Lars White.

Blake had hooked the shark's left pectoral fin.
"About an hour and a half later of following, taking up slack, we saw a great big shark through the waves, and then it took us about another half an hour to get it close enough to get some more pictures and then cut the line so we could release it," said Lars.

The shark didn't attack and eventually the White family was able to cut the line...so ends the most memorable fishing adventure ever.
The White family emailed photos of the shark to the Atlantic Great White Conservancy, who confirmed it was in fact a great white shark. Great white sharks are usually spotted on the outer Cape, but very rarely seen so deep in Cape Cod Bay.
Now, Blake has seen a shark, up close. He is hoping for something else the next time his family goes fishing.
"I'm going to catch a smaller fish," said Blake.
