AUSTIN, TX (KTRK) -- Texans are known for their Cowboy hats and now one state lawmaker wants to make it the state's official headgear.

State Representative Marsha Farney (R) of Burnet has introduced a resolution to make the cowboy hat the state hat of Texas.

In her proposal, she mentioned that the cowboy hat "symbolizes both the state's iconic western culture and the uniqueness of its residents..."

It also says cowboy hats are reflected in several of the current state symbols, like rodeo, the official state sport, and the longhorn, the official state animal.
