NASA shares stunning Earth Day view of big blue marble

Today is Earth Day, and NASA is honoring our planet in a way that only NASA can.

The agency took to social media to share a simple (yet mind-blowing) clip of our big blue marble, shot aboard the International Space Station -- 249 miles from the surface.

What's more, the footage is shot in 4K, a cutting-edge cinematic technology that captures exceptionally high-resolution footage.

Last year, NASA sent a fleet of 4K cameras to the space station as part of an initiative with digital cinema company RED. Since then, the agency's astronauts have filled an entire YouTube channel with remarkable, high-definition footage of Earth and behind-the-scenes clips of space station life.
