Argument leads to fatal shooting of man at apartment parking garage near Texas Medical Center

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a shooting at a parking garage near the Texas Medical Center.

Authorities say the incident happened around 10:30 p.m. in a parking garage at an apartment complex located at 2950 Old Spanish Trail and Grand Boulevard.

According to police, it all started with an argument involving three suspects and the two victims on the fourth floor of the parking garage.

One man was shot and killed. He has been identified as 21-year-old Johnny Ray Demease.

Eric Burton, 21, was also shot. He underwent surgery at the hospital and is in critical condition.

Several nurses who live at the complex performed CPR on the victims.

The suspects got away.

A woman was sitting in a car with Demease and Burton. Authorities say she is Demease's girlfriend and that she witnessed the shooting.

"She's fine. She is a little shaken up. She's cooperative. I've talked with her a couple times. She was out here most of the night," said Kelly McDonald with the Houston Police Homicide Unit.

Investigators say the wounded men were taken to the fifth floor of the garage by the time officers arrived.

Police say the suspects do not live at the apartment complex. They don't know yet if the victims lived there.
