Greg Abbott surrounded by Republican powerhouse in Austin

AUSTIN, TX (KTRK) -- While a Greg Abbott victory may not be in doubt, it is hard to imagine a more Republican place in all of America tonight. Greg Abbott will win tonight. I'm not giving anything away with that as I write this at 7:30pm. The question is how wide the margin.

But think about this for a second -- before Greg Abbott speaks to claim victory, Jeb Bush (father of Land Commissioner candidate George P Bush), Sen. Ted Cruz and outgoing Governor Rick Perry will all speak from this stage. That makes three 2016 presidential contenders in one room to celebrate Texas victories. They are all drawn here for good reason - one family, two others party loyalty. But it is an impressive show of political power on this election night.

The story of this midterm will be told in other states - but the future of the GOP may just be right here, right now.
