Bicyclist identified following fatal shooting in SE Houston
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston homicide detectives are investigating a deadly shooting in southeast Houston that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man.
Police got the call for shots fired just before 11pm Wednesday night in the 8200 block of Garland St.
Investigators say the victim, Gilberto Rojero, 19, was gunned down as he rode his bicycle.
"Several shots were fired and multiple shell casings were found," HPD Homicide Detective W.C. Huff told Eyewitness News. "He might have been in the wrong place at the wrong time."
At 6:15am, the medical examiner removed the man's body from the street. Beyond the police tape, dozens of people gathered in nearby lawns, some visibly upset.
"It's a shock. I've known him since we were little kids. He has family on this street," said a bystander who asked not to be identified.
Police continue to search for the shooter. Police say the suspect's vehicle is described as a white, four-door Chevrolet Impala with unknown license plates. Rojero's family disputes the vehicle description and says the suspect's vehicle was a white Malibu.
At this time, police say there are no known witnesses nor suspects.
Rojero family tells Eyewitness News Rojero had a 2-year-old son. He was the oldest of two sisters and two brothers. He was riding his bike from his father's house to his grandma's house.
