Rare identical triplet girls, two conjoined, born in Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Ximena, Scarlett and Catalina Torrez are identical triplet girls born this weekend, but the rarity of their birth doesn't stop there. Two of the babies, Ximena and Scarlett, are conjoined at the pelvis.

Mom Sylvia Hernandez and her husband, Roel Torrez, said they are blessed by all three bundles of joy, but they don't take the responsibility lightly.

"God chose us for a reason, to take care of them," Torrez told ABC affiliate KIIITV. "He sent us little angels for a reason; So it's a big blessing for us."

When Torrez first got to hold Catalina, he said, "It's like a gift of God."

The conjoined babies were transferred to Driscoll Children's Hospital. The parents have been keeping friends and family updated on Facebook, where they said they will love their children the same, conjoined or not.

KIIITV reports it will be several months before separation is even a safe option for the conjoined babies.

The three babies were delivered just shy of 34 weeks Saturday evening. In addition to being identical, they even weighed the same: four lbs. 11 oz.

The chances of this unusual birth, KIIITV reports, are 1 in 50 million.
