HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston jazz musician Joe Sample has died. He was 75.

According to his Facebook page, Sample passed away at 9:50pm Friday.

"His wife Yolanda and his son Nicklas would like to thank all of you, his fans and friends, for your prayers and support during this trying time," the Facebook post states. "Please know that Joe was aware and very appreciative of all of your prayers, comments, letters/cards and well wishes."

Sample's health had been declining in recent months, but details surrounding his death were not immediately available.

Sample grew up in Fifth Ward and attended Wheatley High School, where he met his bandmates from The Crusaders. He later became a solo pianist and worked with some of the biggest names in the jazz world.
