It happened at a restaurant on Gessner at Highway 249 when the deputy confronted the customer for trying to leave with a beverage.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A confrontation over an alcoholic beverage at a northwest Houston restaurant led to gunfire between a patron and an off-duty sheriff's deputy who was working security, authorities said.

It happened on Gessner and Highway 249 Friday night.

A customer tried to walk out of the restaurant with the beverage when the deputy confronted them, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. The customer became angry, pulled a gun and opened fire, investigators said.
