A Chapel Hill woman has been arrested after deputies said she stole from a cancer charity.

According to the Chatham County Sheriff's Office, 46-year-old Michelle Lowery-Rowan took money from the nonprofit organization "Chix 4 a Cure," which raises money for cancer patients and their families.

Records show Lowery-Rowan, a former Glouster, Ohio resident, was the treasurer of the organization.

She was arrested on Dec. 20 and charged with money laundering, grand theft, telecommunications fraud, tampering with records, forgery, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.

Lowery-Rowan was jailed under a $750,000.00 secured bond and will be extradited to Ohio to face the allegations.
