WASHINGTON -- The United States Capitol Police have issued an all clear after briefly evacuating its headquarters Tuesday due to a suspicious vehicle nearby in Washington, D.C.

Authorities said around 12:16 p.m., a truck approached a barricade next to the United States Capitol Police Headquarters and went through a routine K9 sweep the USCP headquarters and "expressed interest in the vehicle."

USCP officer saw a suitcase laying on top of plastic wrap in the bed of the truck, authorities said.

The vehicle was then deemed suspicious and out of an abundance of caution, USCP Headquarters issued an evacuation.

A local business was also evacuated out of an abundance of caution.

After an investigation, it was found that neither the suitcase or the vehicle had hazardous material. After an interview with the driver, they were released.

Police say the driver of the vehicle did not follow the standard policies and procedures for making deliveries at the Capitol complex.

All road closures will end in the area after clearing the area.
