ALVIN, TX (KTRK) -- A 7-year-old boy from Alvin accidentally shot himself after authorities say he found his grandfather's gun in a locked gun safe.

On Wednesday, the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department says deputies found the boy at the home in the 4000 block of East Highway 6 in Alvin.

They say the boy was able to get into his grandfather's locked gun cabinet where he found a .38 revolver and discharged one round.

The bullet went into the 7-year-old's forehead just below the hairline. The bullet traveled under the skin to the crown of his head and exited, according to authorities.

Authorities say the bullet did not enter the boy's skull and he's expected to make a full recovery.

The Brazoria County Sheriff's Department says the grandparents will not face any charges because the boy went to "great efforts" to find the key for the gun cabinet.
