Drier for the rest of week with temperatures heating up into the weekend

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- After a rainy Monday afternoon, the forecast this week dries out a little with hotter temperatures expected for the weekend.

Showers and storms that developed Monday afternoon and evening will continue to fizzle out as the sun sets. Some cloudiness will remain overnight with temperatures either falling or staying in the mid-upper 70s depending on if you had a rain-cooled day Monday. Tuesday there's only a 30% chance for a few showers and storms in the afternoon, so it's arguably a drier day with more sunshine too and afternoon highs in the low-mid 90s.

How about the rest of the work week?

Compared to what we saw over the weekend and Monday, Tuesday through Friday will be drier with only a 10-30% chance for rain. The two days with the better odds of a few showers and storms will be Tuesday and Friday. Otherwise expected warm mornings and hot afternoons with afternoon highs beginning to creep up into the upper 90s by the end of the week.

What about the weekend with the Pride Houston Parade?

At this time it looks like the weekend will also be not as stormy and wet, but definitely hot. A heat dome will begin to settle in across the region heading into the weekend, likely giving highs ana afternoon boost into the upper 90s. The heat index both Saturday and Sunday afternoon could peak near 107 degrees.

What's happening in the tropics?

The tropical wave train off the west coast of Africa is beginning to take shape. There are two regions to watch for potential tropical development over the next 7 days with one wave currently in the mid-Atlantic and another just entering it. The wave farther to the west has a low chance of developing into a tropical system before reaching the Caribbean. Then the wave farther east in the Atlantic could form into the next tropical system of the 2026 Atlantic season later this week.
