HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Traffic on the 610 West Loop just north of I-10 is flowing again after a car fire with massive flames forced drivers to stop Sunday afternoon.

The incident was reported happened just after noon on the northbound West Loop at Old Katy Road.

Flames could be seen shooting from the vehicle on the shoulder of the Loop as thick black smoke filled the air.

Houston firefighters were able to extinguish the fire while traffic was diverted away from the shoulder.

Traffic in the northbound lanes of the West Loop remained heavy after the flames were doused.

There was no word on injuries in the blaze or what may have caused it.
