HOUSTON (KTRK) -- One person is dead and another injured after a shooting in southwest Houston on Saturday evening.

The victim has been identified by his mother as 17-year-old Anthony Pereira. The injured boy, who has not been named, was his best friend. Pereira's mother says her son had been facing gang threats.

Police say Pereira called his friend saying he was afraid of gang activity and asked him to go with him to get a haircut.

While they were driving on the US-59 feeder road about to turn onto Glenmont Drive, a blue car drove up and someone shot into the car.

Pereira died, but the driver drove a few blocks, lost control, and crashed. He's at Ben Taub Hospital and is expected to be okay.

The suspects are still on the run.
