WALLER COUNTY, TX (KTRK) -- A former Prairie View A&M football player was killed in a shooting during a party in Waller County.

School officials confirm 22-year-old Darius Matthew Edwards was shot and killed around 12:35am on FM 1098 in Hempstead.

The Waller County Sheriff's Office says Edwards died after someone pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Edwards was a member of the 2011 Prairie View A&M football signing class, but never participated after an injury sidelined his athletic career.

Sheriff's deputies say no suspects have been identified. The Texas Rangers have been called to assist sheriff's deputies.
