Wisconsin family rescues dog from Mississippi River, searches for owners.

Platteville, WI (KTRK) -- A Wisconsin couple is looking to reunite a dog with its owners after they say it floated down the Mississippi River.

About a week ago, the family saw the dog struggling in the fast-moving river while they were camping at the Big H campground.

"We were sitting by our cabin outside and this little dog came in," said Rhonda Stoney. "This little beagle came in from the Mississippi River. She was very wet and hungry."

The Stoneys were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary when they spotted a beagle. They say they don't know how long the dog was in the water, but they believe the dog fell out of a boat or got swept away and that the water of the river went up to the road.

A local veterinarian told the Stoneys that the beagle is deaf, but they could not determine whether or not the flood waters led to her hearing being damaged.

The Stoneys have decided to name the beagle Annie, in part because they found her during their wedding anniversary.
