HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A former Cypress Lakes High School teacher is facing some serious criminal charges.

Kelly Lynn Thompson, 26, is accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male student.

Court documents show the Cy Fair ISD police began investigating Thompson after a witness called a tip line to report the alleged affair. That witness told police the teacher claimed she and the student were in love.

"That's pretty disturbing," said former student Zac Rodriguez. "I mean, because you don't really know about these things until, you know, somebody says it online. It's unbelievable. Teacher and a student, there's a separation there on purpose."

Investigators say evidence shows after they began questioning Thompson about the relationship, she allegedly texted a couple of close friends pleading with them to deny knowledge of the relationship.

Cy Fair police interviewed the teen involved in the case this week. They say the boy admitted he was involved in a sexual relationship with his teacher. They say the boy told them at least one incident happened in Thompson's car while parked outside of his house.

Some parents at the high school say they're not going to be too quick to judge right now.

"I think it could be both ways," one parent said. "It could be a student making something up, or it could be you know, wrong that the teacher is having an inappropriate relationship with a student."

Thompson is now charged with improper relationship with a student and tampering with witnesses. She is due in court Thursday.

The district released a statement on the Thompson arrest. It reads:
