Give Elsa A Girlfriend
Twitter users urge Disney to give Elsa a girlfriend in campaign to raise LGBT awareness in Frozen

"Frozen" was applauded by audiences for its portrayal of a strong, independent woman, but now people want the sequel to take one more progressive step forward. They want Elsa to get a girlfriend in "Frozen 2." #GiveElsaAGirlfriend is trending and the twitter campaign all started with one 17-year-old's "aha!" moment.

Then everyone did.

Since Sunday, when 17-year-old Alexis Isabel Moncada first tweeted her musings about an LGBT-inclusive plot line for Disney's Frozen 2, the sequel to the 2013 blockbuster hit, the teenager's creative hashtag has been shared online thousands of times. Some Twitter users even included illustrations of what the romance might look like.

When Frozen first debuted in theaters, fans theorized that the underlying plot points promoted inclusion and many adopted the movie's hit song, "Let it Go," as a gay anthem permitting self-acceptance.

ABC, which is owned by the Disney-ABC Television Group, already features inclusive representation of famous Disney characters on the show "Once Upon A Time."

Disney has yet to respond to Moncada's now viral Twitter campaign, but she said online that even if the company can't give Elsa a female love interest, she hopes to see more LGBT characters in future movies.
