It happened around 9pm Tuesday in the 6300 block of Bellfort near Northdale.
Police say the victim -- identified as Clyde B. Hadnot, 50 -- was seen speaking to the driver of a white SUV. A short time later, he was reportedly seen running from the vehicle as it sped toward him.
According to investigators, Hadnot tripped and fell in a vacant lot, and the SUV followed him and intentionally struck him while he was lying on the ground.
Hadnot died at the scene and the driver fled.
Witnesses say they were too scared to make out a suspect description, but we're told the SUV had a partial Texas license plate number of 82G.
Authorities are still trying to determine a motive.
