Former Humble dance teacher accused of sex with teen goes before judge

A former Humble ISD dance teacher accused of having sex with a female student appeared before a judge this morning.

It was Amanda Feenstra's first time standing before a judge since her arrest. Her lawyer did most of the talking and on her way out of the courtroom, she didn't have much to say to us either.

Feenstra, 31, is charged with having an improper relationship with a student, a second-degree felony. According to the charging document, a former Humble High School student told police she had a sexual relationship with Feenstra beginning when she was 17 years old and while Feenstra was instructor of the high school dance team.

The relationship, according to the woman, went on for more than a year in 2010 and 2011, the alleged victim even staying at Feenstra's house for a while.

In court today, the judge modified the conditions of Feenstra's bail, adding some serious restrictions.

"Ms. Feenstra is not to have any contact with the complaining witness in this case or any minor under the age of 17," explained Assistant Harris County District Attorney Lacy Johnson. "She is also not allowed to possess any device, including computers or cell phones that can access the Internet and she's not allowed to have access to pornography of any kind."

Feenstra is free on $30,000 bond with those conditions imposed today. The case will now go the grand jury.

Feenstra is due back in court April 24.
