Smoke could rising from the apartment complex on Bammel N. Houston at Veteran's Memorial could be seen for miles. The blaze broke out around 9:30am.
Thirty minutes later, firefighters had the fire under control. According to officials on the scene, 16 apartment units in all were destroyed. Top floor units were destroyed by fire, and the lower units suffered water damage.
