WHAT: The Children's Museum of Houston will celebrate Mexico's victory at the Battle of Puebla during our Cinco de Mayo Celebration. Learn about this historic event through fun, hands-on activities, like creating pretend fireworks and patriotic mobiles, playing a traditional game of Lotería, then, shake-shake-shaking it up while making a traditional Mexican maraca!

  • Patriotic Mobile: The Eagle, Serpent, and Cactus in the Mexican flag tell the story of an Aztec legend. Hear about it while creating this colorful decoration.
  • Patriotic Fireworks: Light up the celebration as you create these from scratch.
  • Play Lotería: Win the lotería! It's a traditional board game families in Mexico play.
  • Mexican Legends Informance: Create an artistic interpretation of Lucia Zenteno, a beautiful but odd woman who was the fascination of Francisco Olivera, renowned painter and illustrator from Oaxaca, México.
