HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Local college students are using their creativity to provide a unique playhouse for abused children.

A Montgomery County Child Advocacy Group asked University of Houston's contractor students to build playground equipment for kids in their foster care system.

Andy Cordova, President of the University's Associated Builders and Contractors chapter says they want to make a difference.

"All I hope for is smiles and laughter. These kids come from a background that is not happy and I want to help change that," said Cordova.

The students designed a multi-colored truck that resembles one on actual construction sites. It's an 8 foot structure that has a realistic style cab in front and a real life crane in back, with two set of stairs.

Thirty construction management major students spent the day Saturday working together to create a fun and safe play area for these neglected children. Cordova says they wanted an original theme.

"We went with the idea of a crane truck," he said.

Students have been working on the project for two weeks in efforts to complete it by July 31.
