Video shows woman apparently stealing from the dead with toddler in tow: Pct. 5

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities are searching for a woman they said was caught stealing from the dead with a toddler in tow.

Harris County Precinct 5 Constable Terry Allbritton’s Office said the woman was caught on camera burglarizing a mausoleum at the Memorial Oaks Cemetery on June 6.

The woman, dubbed the “crypt crook” by authorities, is seen walking into the mausoleum, and behind her, a child is wandering. The video also shows the woman opening up the glass cremation niches. She appears to use some sort of tool, opens the glass, and helps herself to what’s inside.

The Precinct 5 Constable’s office said jewelry, gold bars, and rings turned up missing. Authorities added that this is not the first time this has happened.

They said a visitor first noticed something missing from a display case on May 26, more than a week before the most recent video was taken. However, it’s unclear if the suspect in the June 6 incident is connected to that.

Now, investigators are turning to the public for help in identifying the mystery. One of the images shows the woman’s back is covered in tattoos, and at one point, she was holding a distinctive black and white purse.

It still remains unknown how the woman accessed the mausoleum.
