HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Mattress Mack opened up his heart and his stores to his community in time of need.
Those displaced by Hurricane Harvey had a room at any Gallery Furniture locations.
Gallery Furniture Owner Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale let the public come in and sleep on his stores' furniture, as well as get a bite to eat from the cafes he's known for.
"Dad, it doesn't surprise me you opened the stores to our fellow Houstonians, you would give your last breath for another, but it still amazes me how selfless you are," his daughter, Laura McIngvale Brown said on Facebook.
Now, he's also looking for help from the community to keep paying it forward.
Gallery Furniture is collecting cleaning supplies to donate to those in need to begin the vital process of cleaning up their homes and places of business. All Gallery Furniture locations, I-45 North (between Tidwell and Parker), Post Oak in the Galleria area and Grand Parkway in Richmond are accepting donations of cleaning products including:
Heavy-duty garbage bags
Box fans (to circulate air)
"Recovery is the next phase Houstonians face and we want to make sure they have the proper supplies they need to make their homes safe if possible until the insurance companies can assess the damage," said Jim McIngvale.
