According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to the scene at the Wesley Square Apartments in the 7400 block of Calhoun Road near the South Loop just before 2:30 a.m.
Investigators said a man and a woman were arguing inside an apartment when the woman allegedly stabbed the man. HPD said three children were inside the apartment when the stabbing happened, though officials did not release their ages.
First responders took the victim to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.
Authorities said 23-year-old Ariyanna Cooper was identified as the suspect accused of stabbing the victim, identified as 23-year-old Travis Jerome Powell. Detectives said they took Cooper into custody and interviewed her before arresting and charging her for her alleged role in the incident.
According to court documents obtained by ABC13, Cooper is charged with murder. Records also described Cooper and Powell as sexual partners.
Documents show that Cooper was previously charged with aggravated assault in 2024, accused of threatening a family member with a knife. Cooper was placed on three years of deferred adjudication for that incident, records show.
Records also show that Cooper is expected in court on Monday, June 8.
