HOUSTON (KTRK) -- We have an update to a deadly crash on the North Freeway yesterday. We now know two of the three people killed were students at Dekaney High School in Spring ISD.
Eyewitnesses told deputies a Camaro was speeding along the feeder road near Parramatta and sideswiped a van that had just exited the freeway on Wednesday.
The Camaro then hit a curb, went airborne and crashed into a pillar, killing Larry Jessamy, Sarid Shahdaiah, and Quincy Williams. The driver was Jessamy, a trainer who worked out of the Legends Sports Complex in The Woodlands. Shahdaiah and Williams were both juniors at Dekaney High School, and students say both were popular Varsity football players. Family members say Shahdaiah was a linebacker and defensive end, and WillIiams was a running back.
"He loves football, and when he started working out, we couldn't get him to stop working out because that's all he ever knew -- football and working out. His work ethic is unstoppable," said Yiriya Shahdaiah, Sarid Shahdaiah's little sister. "Nobody compared to my brother. I don't know a better football player."
The woman driving the van stopped for a few minutes but left. A Harris County Sheriff's Office said the woman later returned to the scene to share her account with the police.
Counselors are at Dekaney this morning to assist students and staff dealing with the loss.
On Thursday morning, the district sent out a statement, which reads, "It is with profound sadness that we report that two Dekaney High School students died yesterday evening, Dec. 3, in the car accident at I45 and Parramatta. We have reached out to the families of the students; counselors have been assigned to the campus to assist students and staff in dealing with this tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these students.
As for the driver, the general manager at Legends Sports Complex says Jessamy was a kind and generous man who donated his time to the underprivileged and that he had been training these two football players for free.
