KATY, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities said a man was shot and killed by officers on Monday evening following a police pursuit that started in Brookshire and ended in Katy.
According to the Brookshire Police Department, officers tried to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday based on "observed traffic violations." Officers said they turned on their emergency lights to make the stop before the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.
Brookshire police said the vehicle exited their jurisdiction and continued into the City of Katy, where officers from the Katy Police Department soon joined and assisted in efforts to stop the vehicle.
Authorities said the suspect vehicle came to a stop in an area south of Interstate 10 and F.M. 1463. A man then exited the vehicle and fled on foot with a firearm, police said.
According to investigators, shots were fired between the suspect and officers from both departments. After the suspect was struck, officers then rendered first aid to him until EMS arrived at the scene, BPD said.
The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he was later pronounced dead, officials said.
No officers were injured in the incident, authorities said.
Officials did not immediately release the identity of the suspect.
Brookshire PD said there is still an active investigation led by the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office and the Texas Rangers.
