San Leon development aims for sustainability from the ground up

SAN LEON, Texas -- A construction technology startup is bringing a new kind of neighborhood to the Gulf Coast.

HiveASMBLD is using large-scale 3D printing to build homes in Gulf Shore Estates, a new development in San Leon. The company says it plans to build 23 homes designed for long-term efficiency and durability.

According to HiveASMBLD, the building process uses lower-carbon materials and is designed to reduce construction waste compared to traditional methods. The homes are also expected to be energy-efficient, which could help homeowners save on utility costs over time.

Construction is now underway in San Leon, and ABC13 got a look at how the printing process works, which you can see in the video above.
