HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Frankie Typovsky, 29, is living his dream. Typovsky is a sports reporter for Czech TV and Czech Radio, covering his first World Cup here in H-town.
To make the experience even sweeter, the team from Frankie's home country, Czechia (better known as the Czech Republic), returned to the World Cup 2026 for the first time in 20 years.
While in Houston, Frankie covered Germany's win over Curacao on Sunday, "It was insane. As an 8-year-old kicking the ball around with my pals dreaming of playing in it, it was overwhelming."
Frankie is no stranger to Texas. He lived with his uncle in Katy for half of his junior year, attending Katy Taylor High School. This time around, he is staying with his cousin Sasha near east downtown Houston for the World Cup.
Sasha loved visiting the Czech Republic as a youngster, "I have a lot of fond memories of my cousin visiting there."
Frankie's days are long and busy covering the World Cup and Houston's culture. Two things that have surprised him are Houston's humid, wet weather and the warm welcome by the American fans, "I was pleasantly surprised by the reception. You hear stories that come over to Europe, but the people here have been so welcoming."
Frankie is traveling to Atlanta next with relatives to see Czechia play South Africa on Thursday. Frankie is fired up, "I get to see my home team play in a huge stadium; I get goosebumps just talking about it."
