HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- For owner Fred McBride, serving fresh seafood starts long before customers walk through the door. McBride spends many of his mornings on the water, fishing for the same seafood that later appears on plates inside his restaurant, Captain Mc's.
"When you come to the restaurant, you're going to taste the passion," McBride said.
McBride says fishing has been part of his life for as long as he can remember. It was first introduced to him by his grandfather, and his mom encouraged the hobby growing up. The love for the sport never faded, so much so that he left a career in education that spanned nearly two decades and decided to take to the waters professionally.
"If I am going to do something, I have to love it, and the one thing I know I love besides my family is going fishing," McBride said.
After gaining experience as a commercial fisherman, McBride opened Captain Mc's Seafood located at 5055 Griggs Road in Houston.
ABC13's Localish followed McBride from the water to the kitchen, and in the video above, he shares a few close calls he's had on the water, as well as the legacy he hopes to build.
