Brazoswood ISD staff member identified as victim in deadly crash at Clute Municipal Park, police say

CLUTE, Texas (KTRK) -- A 23-year-old man is dead after a crash near Brazoswood High School in Clute on Wednesday, according to the Clute Police Department.

According to Clute PD, the man was traveling southbound on Brazoswood Drive when he crashed his vehicle through the fence at Clute Municipal Park on 100 Parkview Drive, then into the pool area.

Law enforcement said that the man's vehicle caught fire, and the man was pronounced dead.

Brazosport ISD identified the man as Steven Alvarez, Lake Jackson Intermediate School's IT Technician, adding that he was beloved at the school and was a proud graduate of Brazoswood High School Class of 2022. Clute PD confirmed that the victim was a Brazosport ISD employee.

According to preliminary information from Clute PD, law enforcement believes that he suffered a medical episode.

Additionally, police said that the decommissioned pool was empty at the time of the incident.
