2-year-old girl hit, killed by her dad who was backing up his pickup truck in NE Houston, police say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston police are investigating after they say a toddler was fatally hit by her father, who was backing up his pickup truck in the driveway on Tuesday night.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to Turner Road near Dodson, where a 2-year-old girl was fatally hit by a pickup truck.

Authorities say that the toddler was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Lt. Larry Crowson told ABC13 that the girl's father arrived home from work and was unaware she was in the yard. The dad was backing up his truck and struck the toddler, police said.

Houston police said the father stayed on the scene and showed no signs of intoxication.

An investigation is still ongoing.
