DEER PARK, Texas (KTRK) -- A 14-year-old girl is dead after police say she was accidentally shot inside a Deer Park home.

Police were going in and out of the home on Wilson Drive at Park Meadows Avenue all night gathering evidence.

The accidental shooting happened around 8 p.m. Sunday.

The circumstances around the shooting, including who pulled the trigger, have not been released.

Deer Park ISD released a message to parents from the principal at Fairmont Junior High, where the district confirms the teenager was an eighth-grader. The statement says, in part, "There are no words to express the depth of this loss. All we can do is love and support the family and friends of this young lady."

The school also says it plans to have additional counselors on campus this week to meet with students.
