School bus flips on side in southwest Harris County

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A school bus carrying two special needs students flipped on its side in a wreck in southwest Harris County this afternoon.

It happened on Sugarland Howell near Empanada, as the bus was turning into Alief Taylor High School. According to Alief ISD, the driver of a Mercedes sedan broadsided the bus. A third vehicle -- an SUV -- was also hit.

District officials say the two students are OK and with their parents. The school bus driver was taken by a private vehicle to the hospital to be checked out.

Police have detained the Mercedes driver, while the driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
