Severe weather leaves damage, flooding

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A Flood Watch continues until 7 p.m. Houston dodged the intense rains that dropped over half a foot of rain in our coastal counties. Some locations closer to Matagorda Bay even picked up over a foot of rain since midnight.
Additional rainfall totals today will generally come in at least than a quarter of an inch for most, but some pockets of heavier rain in our coastal counties could add an additional inch or two over the saturated ground.

Preliminary report shows 2 tornados touched down in Wharton County
Initial reports are that an EF-1 tornado with 100 mph winds touched down just behind some apartments northeast of Wharton and travelled east across CR 166, CR 133, and CR 129, according to the National Weather Service.
The most extensive damage was reportedly along Everett and Holiness Lanes, just south of CR 166.
NWS reports roof damage to a number of homes and trees with branches snapped as well.
Also, an EF-0 tornado with winds of 75 mph began just east of Burr and produced some minor tree damage along its path as it travelled west across CR 117, according to NWS.

IAH departures no longer delayed after thunderstorms, according to FAA
A departure delay is no longer in effect at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
The severe storms impacted departures at IAH and William P. Hobby Airport throughout the morning. The delay at Bush was listed as 96 minutes and increasing, according to the FAA, but it has since been lifted.

Tree blocking Highway 146 near Ridgewood
The Liberty Fire Department reported a fallen tree that was blocking a portion of Highway 146.
Fire officials said both lanes of the highway in front of Ridgewood were impacted. In an update, the department said the roadway had been cleared.
Drivers are still being urged to use caution in the area.

Departures delayed at Bush Airport due to thunderstorms, according to FAA
A departure delay remains in effect at George Bush Intercontinental Airport due to Thursday's storms.
The severe storms have impacted departures at IAH and William P. Hobby Airport throughout the morning. The delay at Bush is listed as 96 minutes and increasing, according to the FAA.
A ground stop at Hobby was lifted just before 9 a.m.
Airport officials advise travelers to contact their airline directly for the most up-to-date information on their flight.
