Chambers County scaling back COVID-19 vaccination appointments due to decrease in demand

CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- After a decline in residents signing up for COVID-19 vaccines, Chambers County announced Wednesday that it will begin decreasing available vaccine appointments by the end of the month.

County officials say, despite best efforts to share information regarding appointment availability, the number of people visiting the county-run vaccine clinic has begun to decline.

According to Chambers County, the Public Health Vaccine Hub has been administering shots since January 2021 and has provided more than 18,000 first and second doses.

It had been run two to three days per week to vaccinate Chambers County residents and those in surrounding communities before Wednesday's announcement.

Now that demand has decreased, individuals will only be able to obtain first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on three dates through the end of April.

Appointments can be scheduled for April 16, April 23 and April 29 on the Chambers County Health Department Website.

Appointments will be required for all remaining dates.

After those dates, Chambers County will no longer provide first doses at the vaccine hub.

The county noted that it remains committed to vaccination efforts and is ready to reactivate the hub if necessary.
