EL LAGO, TX (KTRK) -- About 75 firefighters from six different department are battling a major building fire in El Lago.

The fire started around 3pm at a hardware store on Nasa Parkway at Lake Shore. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming out of the store. They evacuated everyone and started battling the fire.

"Conditions got to the point where it was unsafe for them to continue to operate inside, at which time we pulled everybody out of the building and then began a defensive operation," Seabrook Fire Chief Andy Gutacker said.

Right now, there are no reports of injuries.

The fire is under control but the building, which has been around since the 1960s, appears to be totally damaged.

The road remains was to traffic in both directions as firefighters battled the blaze.

The Seabrook Fire Department says it doesn't know what started the fire, but it has asked the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office to come investigate.
